Council Of Palms

Long ago, after the young wind crowned her guardian on the Big Island, she called for others to join him. The sea gods sent her palms from distant shores, each carrying a different gift. One for strength, one for grace, one for patience, and so on until there were many.

They rooted themselves in a crescent of black lava and golden sand, facing the ocean as one. From this place, they listened to the waves and shared what they learned with the guardian. Together, they decided when to greet the wind and when to hold still, when to bend and when to stand firm.

Islanders say that when the trade winds sweep in at dawn, the palms lean closer to one another, whispering their counsel. The rhythm of their fronds is the sound of the island thinking.
